Antoine Griezmann has confirmed he will leave Atletico Madrid in the summer.

The France international has enjoyed five seasons in the Spanish capital, winning three honours including the Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup in 2018.

With 133 goals in 252 matches to Griezmann’s name, Diego Simeone is sure to have a difficult time finding a suitable replacement.

His exit has been on the horizon for some time, with a host of top European clubs reportedly desperate to land one of the most prolific strikers in world football.

Despite Griezmann indicating a desire to continue with Atletico, a meeting with his employers appears to have brought about a long-awaited resolution.

Marca claims 2018 World Cup winner told the club that although he is grateful for the affection he has received since arriving from Real Sociedad four years ago, it is time for him to take on a new challenge elsewhere.

Atletico posted a video of Griezmann delivering a farewell message to his fans.

"It's been an incredible five years here; thanks for everything, from the bottom of my heart,” he said.

Griezmann was closely linked with a move to Manchester United earlier in the season, but it now seems most likely he will remain in La Liga at Barcelona.

Wherever he goes though, it’s worth noting that despite having a €200 million release within the contract he signed only last summer, that figure will drop to €120 million on 1 July.
